DRIVING ASSESSMENT

Driving Assessments are provided to ascertain an individuals readiness for the ICBC road test and to determine if any lessons are needed.

During the assessment, our driving coach will evaluate your theoretical knowledge and your ability to use it. The first part is a brief introduction, followed by a safety inspection (which will be conducted on test day). Then, it is time to get behind the wheel and take to the road! You will drive for a minimum of 45 minutes following the coach's instructions. During your driving assessment, you are assessed on the following points:

• Driving rules: How well do you know them and do you respect them on the road?
• Space Margins: Do you understand all of the space margins necessary for safe driving and do you consistently put that knowledge into practice?
• Maneuvering: How well are you able to perform a variety of roadside maneuvers including hill parking, parallel parking, and reverse stall parking?
• Speed: Are your speed choices, as well as acceleration and braking practices, in compliance with ICBC testing standards
• Communication: Are you using your signals at the appropriate times for the appropriate maneuvers without confusing other road users?
• Observation: Are you scanning, shoulder checking, and mirror checking at the appropriate times and the appropriate locations during the drive? Where are you looking while driving?
• Steering: Are you using appropriate steering techniques, properly controlling the steering wheel/vehicle?

The driving coach will give you all the instructions you need during the assessment: which maneuver to do, which way to turn (with plenty of notice). You can just focus on driving.
