Kootenay Driving Academy (KDA) promotes deliberate interaction between our licensed, certified driver training coach and the student’s regular supervisor to ensure new skills are assessed at each stage and sufficiently developed before the student takes the behind-the-wheel test.

Not all driving schools are equal! There’s a big difference between simple instruction and coaching. Coaching gives student drivers encouragement to think for themselves and make decisions in a live environment with the safety net of the coach. Coaching is about raising awareness, developing responsibility and motivating the learner to make the best decisions in traffic. It builds on the physical, emotional and intellectual experiences of the student. Students don’t get constant instruction on when it’s safe to go, always being reminded to check their blind spots etc. KDA driver training methods, designed using research-based tools, teach students to adopt decision-making responsibility from DAY ONE! If students learn to depend on a steady stream of instruction, they will be unprepared to make their own decisions when beginning to drive without a supervisor watching over them.

Curt Rasmussen is a former ICBC Driver Examiner, leadership coach, and law enforcement officer. His passion for wanting to see new drivers experience the joys and freedoms of safe driving inspired him to transition from testing to teaching. Curt feels strongly that purposeful practice perpetuates peak performance (coined by him as “The 5
Curt Rasmussen is a former ICBC Driver Examiner, leadership coach, and law enforcement officer. His passion for wanting to see new drivers experience the joys and freedoms of safe driving inspired him to transition from testing to teaching. Curt feels strongly that purposeful practice perpetuates peak performance (coined by him as “The 5 P’s”). With 10 years of previous law enforcement experience, Curt personally witnessed the tragic results of poor and improper driving. He combines his prior professional experiences with the necessary provincial certifications to provide superior driver training to every client that gets behind the wheel with him.
